A.S. CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MINUTES

I. CALL TO ORDER:

Executive Vice President Kevin Hancock called the meeting to order at 3:33 PM.

IV. MODIFICATIONS TO AGENDA:

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda of September 3, 2014.

KIM/CARILLO

Corey Polant made a friendly amendment to add the Appointment and Review Committee – ASCLC Appointments as Item A under Items for Consideration. Kevin Hancock made a friendly amendment to remove Item C, a presentation by Eric Hansen, from University Reports and Presentations.

The agenda was approved as amended.

VII. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

A. SDSU Vice President of Student Affairs Designee, Randy Timm reported:

1. Aztec Nights events for this weekend:

  •  
    • Friday, 9/5 – Lights Out on the ENS 700 Field from 10 PM-2 AM
    • Saturday, 9/6 – Late Night, Beach Night in the Hepner Quad from 10 PM-2 AM

B. A.S. Executive Director, Christina Brown reported:

1. The A.S. Organization Chart is a visualization of the structure of Associated Students. Christina explained the updated chart for 2014-15 to the ASCLC members and how each department is related, as well as their purpose in Associated Students.

VIII. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION:

A. Appointment and Review Committee – ASCLC Appointments: (Action)

The Appointment and Review Committee serve as the selection committee when there are vacancies on ASBOD, ASCLC, and JAC. Regular membership includes three representatives from ASCLC, three representatives from ASUC, the Executive Vice President, the Vice President of University Affairs, the chairperson of the commission with the vacant seat, the A.S. Chief of Staff (non-voting), and the A.S. Executive Director or designee (non-voting).

It was moved and seconded to open nominations for the Appointment and Review Committee.

B. Filling the Vacancies on Commissions: (Information)

All commissioners and commission representatives looking for ways to fill vacancies, please contact Kevin Hancock and the front desk for help in increasing publicity and interest in your commission.

C. Recap of Expectations: (Information)

Kevin Hancock gave a brief recap on the expectations and purpose the ASCLC members have as constituents of ASCLC and representatives of Associated Students.

D. Commission Breakout Session and Sharing: (Information)

The ASCLC members were given the chance to break-out with their commissions and meet together to talk about their goals for the semester.

IX. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS:

A. Kevin Hancock, Executive Vice President:

  1. 1. University House Event: Mon., 9/22 from 5-6:30 PM at the University House.
  2. A.S. is starting a softball team, entering in the open league. Please sign-up!
  3. Have your organizations send in their Homecoming Court nominations at http://homecoming.sdsu.edu/homecoming/court.aspx.

B. J. Cole, President:

  1. An Evening with Industry: Wed., 9/17 from 5-7 PM in Montezuma Hall. This is a chance for Aztecs to meet professional alumni across San Diego and receive job/internship advice, networking tips, job applications, and interview guidance. RSVP at http://goo.gl/Zm9z6W.
  2. The Aztec Mentor Program is accepting applications for students to connect with alumni on a one-on-one level. Students in the program will receive guidance in networking, interviewing, and job shadowing to assist them with knowledge for the future. Only eight hours of commitment required. To apply, visit http://amp.sdsu.edu/. Registration closes on Mon., 9/15.

C. Jacqueline Karczewski, Vice President of External Relations:

  1. External Relations Board Meeting: Mon., 9/8 at 1 PM in Park Boulevard.
  2. Voter Registration Day: Tues., 9/23.Last Day to Register to Vote: Fri., 10/3.
  3. If you need voter registration forms, they are in Jacqueline’s office.
  4. The Good Neighbor Program will now be sitting under Campus Community Commission.
  5. J. Cole and Jacquline will be attending CSSA Fullerton this weekend.

D. Alex Padua, Vice President of Financial Affairs:

  1. There is currently $120,000 allocated for student travel and events. All guidelines and forms are found on the A.S. website at https://as.sdsu.edu/stu-org-funding/.

E. Corey Polant, Vice President of University Affairs:

  1. Academic Affairs Committee met today. The members will be working to empower the college council members to be effective voices of the students they represent.
  2. Corey is looking for designees to serve on University Senate.

F. Kyle Murphy, ASBOD Student-at-Large:

  1. Attended last Friday’s Campus Fee Advisory Committee meeting with Alex Johnstone.
  2. If you would like ASBOD members to attend your commission meetings to give a presentation on the A.S. structure, please contact any ASBOD member.

G. Lorena Acosta, Aztec Student Union Board Commissioner:

  1. First ASUB Meeting: Mon., 9/8 at 12 PM in Council Chambers.
  2. ASUB Information Session: Wed., 9/3 after today’s ASCLC meeting.

H. Jamie Miller, Aztec Student Union Board Commission Representative:

  1. Check out the student events calendar, found in both Freddie and Yevy’s Office!

I. Niveen Kryakos, Student Support Commissioner:

  1. First SSC Meeting: Mon. 9/8 at 1 PM in the Visionary Suite.
  2. Please inform any councils of our first meeting, if possible. Thank you!
