On March 8 & 9, 2006, SDSU students voted on a referendum to expand and renovate Aztec Center. The results were 75.2% in favor
and 24.8% opposed to a fee increase of $11 per semester starting fall 2006 and an additional $45 starting spring 2010. The fee increase will provide
approximately $44 million for renovation of the existing building and the addition of a new building on the west side referred to as La Tienda.
Construction is slated to start in the fall of 2008 and will be completed in two phases. The first phase will entail construction
of the new building and the second phase will involve renovation of the existing Aztec Center. When completed, this project will offer SDSU students
and the campus community with diverse opportunities and services to enhance the quality of campus life.
