Aztec Center

ModernSpace: Student Union Expansion

On March 8 & 9, 2006, SDSU students voted on a referendum to expand and renovate Aztec Center. The results were 75.2% in favor and 24.8% opposed to a fee increase of $11 per semester starting fall 2006 and an additional $45 starting spring 2010. The fee increase will provide approximately $44 million for renovation of the existing building and the addition of a new building on the west side referred to as La Tienda.

Construction is slated to start in the fall of 2008 and will be completed in two phases. The first phase will entail construction of the new building and the second phase will involve renovation of the existing Aztec Center. When completed, this project will offer SDSU students and the campus community with diverse opportunities and services to enhance the quality of campus life.

Please take time to review the few listings of "Class Notes" in this newsletter and follow the link to send us your news about what you're doing or other news you would like to share with your fellow Aztecs! We look forward to sharing this information in future newsletters.

I can't tell you how excited we are with the opportunity to renovate/expand Aztec Center. SDSU's aspirations to add 10,000-12,000 students to the main campus over the next 20 years presents a welcome challenge to create a new Aztec Center. It will be a community center, a gathering place where students can connect and make lasting friendships and where they can participate in organized programs and leadership opportunities.

Because of their vision and determination, our students are very actively engaged in the planning. This project is an icon of pride and support for future generations of SDSU students.

Please stop by to personally see what we're planning and perhaps how you personally can help. You're going to be very impressed, I guarantee it!

Have a great summer!
