I.   CALL TO ORDER

President James Poet called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.

VI.   SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS AND PRESENTATIONS

  1. Public Safety Update – John Browning, Chief of SDSU Police Department:  Chief Browning reported on a travel alert for anyone traveling into Mexico.  The State Department has issued an alert and a copy of it will be on the [police.sdsu.edu] website.  He also said there will be a ‘crime map’ up on the website where you can see the locations of crime that occurs on campus.  Chief Browning answered questions from the Council members.
  2. SDSU Capital Campaign Update – Mary Ruth Carleton, Vice President and Stephanie Casenza, Associate Vice President and COO, Campaign Communications and Donor Relations: Mary Ruth Carleton and Stephanie Casenza showed a powerpoint presentation updating the Council members on the progress within the comprehensive campaign. 
  3. Helping Faculty Teach Diverse Students and Diverse Topics Effectively Presentation – Katherine Hunt: Katherine presented a powerpoint presentation regarding this topic.

VII.   APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS

It was moved and seconded to approve the Appointments and Resignations List as attached.

VIII.   ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

  1. General Consent Agenda: (Action):

    It was moved and seconded to separate the Elections Committee Minutes from the General Consent Agenda.

    It was moved and seconded to refer Action Item A. Invitations from “friends” to join candidates’ social networking sites from the Elections Committee Minutes back to the Elections Committee.

XI.   EXECUTIVE REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. President: James reported on the following:
    1. James has been continuing to work on the Referendum.  He gave a presentation at the Sneak Peek and he gave a presentation to student org leaders today.
    2. The recycling plan will be presented tomorrow to Sally Roush for her approval.
    3. SDPIC is having its first meeting next Tuesday at 3:30pm.
    4. Next Wednesday will be the first luncheon in James’ office at 12:00pm.
    5. CFAC approved the final voter pamphlet yesterday.  If you sit on CFAC and cannot attend a meeting, please make sure you let your alternate know so they can attend in your place.
  2. Executive Vice President: Jameson reported on the following:
    1. Student Organization Forum: Tuesday, March 4th in the Presidential Suite at 2:00pm.
    2. Gavelcide: we should be done with this game within the week, only two people left.
  3. Vice President of External Affairs: Jeremy reported on the following:
    1. “I Will Vote” is now coming to an end.  Thank you so much for all of your hard work.  Jeremy thanks all of the EAB members.
  4. Vice President of Finance: Justin reported on the following:
    1. AS Gives Back: marketing strategy will be changing this semester.
    2. Green Love: Justin has met with every College Dean except for two.  He has gotten excellent feedback from each dean.  New marketing materials for the campaign will be distributed shortly.
  5. Vice President of University Affairs: Mike reported on the following:
    1. UAB is holding a focus group regarding online services.  Mike will be working with Sandra Cook and someone from ITS.
    2. Mike and Jeremy are looking to collaborate and do something that informs students about not only the budget cuts, but mainly their impacts and what it means directly to the students.
    3. The $55 graduation filing fee goes toward the evaluation process as well as the ceremony that is held once you graduate.  Colleges are moving away from their own mini-commencement to a “Meet and Green” ceremony.  This will prevent further rise of the application fee.
    4. Referendum: information was given to MBAC instructors.  Presentations were given to various student org representatives.  Referendum meetings will be held Thursdays at 5:00pm in Presidential Suite.  Please join us.
  6. President Pro Tempore: Joy reported on the following:
    1. Joy reminded everyone of the Excused Absence forms available in the GAO.
    2. Please bring your binders and wear your polos to each meeting because we are keeping track.
  7. Executive Director: Dan referred to the written report (attached).
  8. University Senate’s Designee: Dr. Cezar Ornatowski reported on the following:
    1. Approved members to two new committees: Sustainability and Freedom of Expression.
    2. CSU Academic Senate passed Resolutions on “Distinctive Universities” and opposing the Graduate Business fee.
  9. University President’s Designee: No report.

XII.   REPORTS OF COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Joy Salvatin – College of Engineering:
    1. SWE will be holding an “Evening with Industry” at Montezuma Hall on February 13th.  Tickets are available at the doors.  There will be a lot of engineering companies at the event.  Also, there will be raffle prizes.  Come and enjoy a great evening.
  2. Megan McCoy – Residence Hall Association:
    1. Week of Caring is next week!
  3. Alexi Biener – Jewish Student Union:
    1. JSU presents a Hot Hot Hot Salsa Night!  Wednesday, February 13th at 7:30pm at the Backdoor!  Salsa instructor will be helping teach!  Food and drinks will be served!  Bring a dancer partner or come with friends!
  4. Julia Rosenberg – Panhellenic Association:
    1. We are participating in Informal Recruitment for the next two weeks.  The last day of tabling is tomorrow, Thursday, February 7th.  Stop by and check it out and tell any girls interested to stop by as well.
    2. Delta Zeta will be formally installed on Saturday, March 15th.  This is very exciting because they will then be a full functioning chapter. 
  5. Lisa Doan – Associated Business Student Council:
    1. One-Day Job Shadowing Program
    2. Add ABSC to Facebook!  Join our group.
    3. E3 – February 13th – Bike Crusade, starts at 11:00am at Chipotle.
  6. Ignacio Prado – Associated Business Student Council:    
    1. March 10th – Undergrad Business Career Fair – Come practice interviewing! 
    2. Aztec Business Alliance: BA-451 
    3. ABSC shirts coming: $14/person  
    4. Volleyball Tournament: Contact Julia (April 19th)    
    5. ABSC still needs a Secretary – contact Ignacio if you know someone.
    6. Ignacio and Tyler made the front page of The Daily Aztec!  IGNACIO-ELEPHANT, TYLER-DONKEY
  7. Dawn Hinkle – College of Sciences Student Council:
    1. AS reps gave a presentation today at the CSSC meeting in regards to the Student Fee Proposal Referendum.
    2. AMSA is holding Global AIDS Week of Action: February 25-28.  Included is tabling, rally, and film showing.
    3. A Council member in College of Sciences suggested that AS promote events, etc more heavily in other areas besides Aztec Center including East and West Commons, Hepner Hall, etc. if possible.
