SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY ASSOCIATED STUDENTS COUNCIL MINUTES

September 6, 2006 – COUNCIL CHAMBERS – 3:00 P.M.

I.         CALL TO ORDER:

            President Matt Keipper called the meeting to order at 3:32 p.m.

 

II.        ROLL CALL:

III.         MODIFICATIONS TO AGENDA:

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda of September 6, 2006.

IV.          APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES:

It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes from May 10, 2006. It was noted that Arlene Hady should appear in Item II. Roll Call, Section A. Voting Members Present.

V.            PUBLIC COMMENT: NONE

 

VI.          SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS AND PRESENTATIONS:          

A.        Jeff Schemmel, SDSU Athletics Director, Appreciation for Associated Students’ Involvement in the Tailgate- Schemmel spoke to AS Council about the excellent student attendance to the SDSU vs. UTEP football game on August 31, 2006. He thanked Dan Cornthwaite and Brian Hamilton for their efforts in promoting the student tailgate. He also introduced the idea of the Red and Black Games, which will be advertised at the next football game.

 

 

VII.       APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS:

A.        It was moved and seconded to approve the appointments and resignations as attached, with the amendment that Jason Potters be added to the Student Learning Outcomes Committee.

XI.          EXECUTIVE REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:

A.        President: Matt reported on the following:

1.         Matt sent around a sign-up for San Diego Speaker Series.

2.         Get excited for retreat this coming weekend!

 

B.        Executive Vice President: Brian reported on the following:

1.         Thanks for showing support to the tailgate at last Thursday’s game against UTEP.   More information about the Red & Black Games will be distributed.

2.         Brian referred to the updated handout about earning your Council gift card.

3.         Council members were advised to sign-up for their board/committee of choice. Listing of board and committee times is being updated.

                        4.         Information about the A.S. Council Retreat was updated.

 

C.        Vice President of External Affairs: Khouloud reported on the following:

            1.         Voter registration starts next week!

            2.         Khouloud advised the Council that she will be absent in the near future for a

CSSA meeting.

 

D.        Vice President of Finance: Tyler reported on the following:

1.         Finance board starts next week!

2.         The Annual A.S. Audit is close to completion.

3.         The stock market is doing well.

4.         College councils and student organizations will need to attend a mandatory finance orientation. Emails will be sent out soon.

 

E.         Vice President of University Affairs: John reported on the following:

1.         The Good Neighbor Program starts next week. Michael Matthews will be recruiting students to volunteer for the program.

2.         Online crashing is currently being tested.

3.         Join University Affairs Board!

 

F.       President Pro Tempore: Garrett had no report.

 

G.        Executive Director: Dan referred to his written report (attached).

           

H.        University Senate’s Designee: Cezar Ornatowski had no report.

 

            I.          University President’s Designee: Dr. Darlene Willis had no report.

                       

 

XII.     REPORTS OF COUNCIL MEMBERS:

A.        Kristen Gozawa- CAL Council:

1.         Pre-Law Society – 1st meeting on September 12th at 2pm in Lower Aztec Center.

 

            B.        Emily Ramm- NASA:

1.         NASA had their first meeting last night. We will be meeting at 6:30pm at Starbucks Tuesday nights. Come check us out.

 

            C.        Jameson DeSantis- InterFraternity Council:

1.         IFC Rush begins in two Sundays from now. Should be intense.

 

            D.        Crystal Brandán- LGBTSU:

1.         Come September 6, 2006 at 5:30pm for Open House at our Resource Center.

 

E.         Angela Mou- Panhellenic Association:

1.         Recruitment starts today and goes until next Tuesday night. There are about 600 women going through the recruitment process and about 350 are expected to join the Greek system.

                       

            F.         Michelle Adams- PSFA College Council:

1.         Meetings Wednesdays at 1pm in PSFA 200. I can’t wait for Retreat! I am excited for this year on A.S.!

 

           G         Samantha Spilka- Honors Council:

1.         We will be having our first meeting tomorrow, 9/7/06, at 5:30pm in LL 428D.

2.         We will be electing our officers and selecting our homecoming queen and king representatives.

 

            H.        Brandon Clark- CAL Council:

1.         The College of Arts and Letters Council’s first meeting will be in Aztlán on Monday, September 11 at noon.

2.         We are excited for a new year and we have a lot of work to do.

 

I.          Rebecca Steinberger- Jewish Student Union:

1.         We had a great turnout at our BBQ last Wednesday.

2.         Looking forward to working with more organizations this year.

                       

            J.         Andrew Ly- ABSC:

1.         First meeting next Monday.

 

K.        Arlene Hady- HHS:

1.         Diversity is the one true thing we all have in common.

2.         We are looking for a college council president. Do you know someone who is interested? Email arlenehady@gmail.com.

            L.         Daniel Matthews- PSFA:

1.         Working on system to make PSFA organizations more aware of what is happening as well as more accountable.

2.         Also talking about a Dean’s list reception for this semester.

3.         Finally talking about a Middle School Mentorship program.

 

M.           Alex Delino- APSA:

1.              First meeting was an overall success with over 130+ members turning out. We are hosting two social events this Thursday (7th) and Friday (8th).

2.              Next meeting will be held in Calmecac on Tuesday, September 12th at 12:30pm.
