I. CALL TO ORDER
President Matt Keipper called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda of October 25, 2006.

VI. SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS AND PRESENTATIONS
- Modern Space Update – Amanda Venegas, Chair:
Amanda Venegas updated A.S. Council on the status of the Open Forum meeting they had on October 16th. She reviewed the progress of the planning committee and relayed concerns from students. A.S. Council members were given an opportunity to ask Amanda questions about the planning. - Special Presentation – Sally Roush, Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs:
Sally Roush spoke to A.S. Council about the relationship between Associated Students and Business Affairs. She then answered questions in regards to the Campus Master Plan, on-campus parking, and student fees.
VII. APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS
It was moved and seconded to approve the Appointments and Resignations.

It was moved and seconded to add Richard Pelayo to the University Affairs Board.

It was moved and seconded to approve the proposed Aztec Center Building Overtime and Staffing Rate increase.

It was moved and seconded to excuse Michael Matthews from leaving the A.S. Council meeting early on October 4, 2006.

It was noted that Michael Matthews will receive a ½ unexcused absence for leaving early from the A.S. Council meeting.

XI. EXECUTIVE REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
- President: Matt reported on the following:
- Come join in a collaborative effort with other San Diego community students in a beach clean-up on November 18.
- Attention Council members: Please complete the 360 Reviews.
- Thank you to A.S. Council for your spirit in dressing up in your Halloween attire. Have a great holiday weekend.
- Executive Vice President: Brian reported on the following:
- November 18th (CAL game) will be first basketball pre-game event – concert/festival and pep rally.
- CSI Advisory Board recruitment – let the GAO know if you are interested. Priority given to those who sat on “CSI” boards before.
- Boo Parade this Saturday at 12:00PM (10:30AM line-up). Thank you to all of those who have helped with construction and will be walking.
- Vice President of External Affairs: Khouloud reported on the following:
- Mission Bay Aquatic Center lease renewal meeting with council members is coming up.
- Congrats on registering students to vote! Now, External Affairs Board is making plans to get people out to vote.
- Khouloud attended a facilitating graduation/academic advising conference. SDSU Rocks!
- Vice President of Finance: Tyler had no report.
- Vice President of University Affairs: John reported on the following:
- Good Neighbor Program is moving along.
- Richard will be missed and I wish him good luck on his future adventures.
- President Pro Tempore: Garrett reported on the following:
- Proposed bylaw amendments were due today. We will soon be reviewing them in Rules Committee and forwarding them to A.S. Council.
- Executive Director: Dan Cornthwaite referred to Julia Rosenberg to read his written report (attached).
- University Senate’s Designee: Dr. Cesar Ornatowski reported on the following:
- Academic Freedom Policy is going to the Senate for approval at the next meeting.
- Freedom of Expression Policy is in committee (Student Affairs) for discussion.
- Undergraduate Council has proposed that the next year’s campus “theme” be “sustainability” and that the next campus-wide reading be on “Building International Communities.”
- University President’s Designee: Dr. Tanis Starck reported on the following:
- Dr. Starck reported on an amazing opportunity for students on campus to develop their leadership skills though a retreat hosted by the Center for Student Involvement on November 3rd and 4th. The title of the retreat is “Leadership in 3D: Dream, Dare, Do!”
XII. REPORTS OF COUNCIL MEMBERS
- Arlene Hady – College Health and Human Services:
- Yay! We finally have a college council president. Joyce B. is a Social Work major who was voted in as our new president.
- Emily Ramm – Native American Student Alliance:
- NASA’s Youth Empowerment Conference is Friday, November 3rd from 8:00AM to 3:00PM. Thank you to all the students and organizations that have signed up to volunteer; we appreciate your support. For more information, contact NASA at NASA@rohan.sdsu.edu.
- Michelle Adams – Professional Studies and Fine Arts:
- PSFA College Council is currently working with Mann Middle School (School of Expression) for community service opportunities. We are looking to help in the classroom with events and fundraising/collecting supplies. If you are interested in helping, please contact me.
- Brandon Clark – CAL Council:
- CAL Council approved a rebudget which will go to Finance Board on October 30th, 2006.
- The new CAL Council logo was unanimously approved.
- The CAL Execs will be meeting this week to work on a CAL Council polo, promotion t-shirts, flyers, and a charity event in the spring.
- CAL Council met our voter registration goal and as a result, we will have a banquet/celebration in the next few weeks.
- CAL Council is the best.
- We wish Richard Pelayo the best!
- Alex Delino – Asian Pacific Student Alliance:
- Next meeting will be on Halloween, Tuesday, the 31st of October in Backdoor. Come for ultimate fun and cool costumes (and possibly food).
- Tristan Osborn – Andres Bonafacio Samahan:
- Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAU) is on November 11th. More details coming soon.
- Rebecca Steinberger – Jewish Student Union:
- Tonight at 7:00PM at Hillel is our Challahween event. Come join us for Challah making and Jewish ghost stories.
- Eric Wacenske – College of Sciences:
- The Breast Cancer Walk breakfast went down without a hitch! Thank you to all those who participated or bought pink ribbons – CSSC raised almost $300!
- Don’t forget to come out to Inner Space/Outer Space on Saturday, October 28th from 4:00PM-8:00PM in the Physics building.
- SHAB will be tabbing tomorrow (October 26th) for “Safe Halloween.”
- Jameson Desantis – InterFraternity Council:
- IFC is proposing a new banner location around Louie’s for a Responsible Drinking announcement in collaboration with Louie’s.
- I will miss you terribly, Richard.
- FIGHT THE POWER!
- Corine Caloca – College of Education:
- Join us on Wednesday, November 1st at 6:00PM in Backdoor for our annual “Explore Experience Education” career fair.
- Food for Thought Holiday Food Drive – help us with canned goods donations. Drop them off in BA-259 at the College of Education office. We are teaming up with Dailard Elementary School.
- We will be planning an open house for our new College of Education office.
- Enrique DeHaro – M.E.Ch.A.
- MEChA meetings are every Tuesday at 3:30PM in Council Chambers.
- Dia De Los Muertos event next Wednesday, November 1st at Scripps Cottage from 6:00PM-8:30PM.
- Movie/Presentation on current Venezuela issues next Thursday, November 2nd from 6:00PM-8:30PM at Casa Real.
- Sheena Powels – Afrikan Student Union:
- The Afrikans Student Union will be hosting their annual High School Conference on Saturday, November 4th, 2006. We need volunteers, so if anyone would be interested, e-mail us at sdsu_asu@yahoo.com. If you come at 6:00AM, you get free lunch and a t-shirt (it’s cute).
- Samantha Spilka – Honors Council:
- On Friday, October 20th, Ronnie Hartfield, author of Another Way Home was on campus. She spoke at a private luncheon and gave an open lecture in the library. She was well received by our students and was extremely impressed by the caliber of SDSU students. Thank you for supporting this wonderful event.
- Bobbi Jane Apostolos – International Student Association:
- Please sign your student organizations up for a table at the International Peace Village on November 16th, 2006.
- John Hutsler – College of Business:
- I don’t know who this pertains to but the chairs in Council Chambers could use a scrub down. Many of the seats have stains on them and I have heard several complaints around the water cooler.
- I would also like to wish Richard a fond farewell. Next meeting I plan on making a motion that would enshrine Richard in the Associated Students Hall of Fame.
