Return to AS Government Home Return to Executive Officers Page Orientation Info A message from the Vice President of External AffairsOpportunities. Each year the Associated Students (A.S.) and the External Affairs Board (EAB) provides exciting opportunities to affect change at San Diego State University and throughout the State of California. As issues arise, members of the External Affairs Board stand on the front lines, advocating the student perspective. Empowerment.Students have the power to make a difference within their personal lives and in the quality of life within their respective communities. It is the charge of the External Affairs Board to assist students in finding causes to be passionate about and platforms from which to speak. Purpose. In the area of External Affairs, A.S. representatives monitor higher education issues and University academic policy at the campus and statewide levels. This Board allows for involvement in the University Senate, which includes participation in such SDSU-related areas as academic policy and planning, budgeting, student affairs, grievances, financial aid, and campus development. The Board also advocates student positions on state and national legislative matters. Legacy.Since the inception of the Vice-President of External Affairs ten years ago, the External Affairs Board has played a major role in campus and statewide policies. Just last year the External Affairs Board pushed for an aggressive voter registration drive and passed resolutions specifically for the advancement of student interests, some of those examples are the No Increase in Student Fees Resolution, and the Executive Order 665 Remediation Resolution. Furthermore, the VP's of External Affairs have been among the most influential members of the California State Student Association (CSSA), with several A.S. students appointed chairs and vice-chairs of the organization. Future. The future success of the External Affairs Board is contingent on student membership. Each year student leaders bring energy, thought and unique life experiences to current topics and issues. What students receive in return is an opportunity to grow and develop communication skills, networking abilities and overall, great life experiences that come as a result of service.
