In addition to regular membership in the Association, and requirements
specified in these Bylaws a student must meet the following academic
requirements in order to be eligible for elected or appointed voting
office in the Associated Students Council (Revised 4/24/96).
- Any student elected or appointed to a voting position on the A.S.
Council must be a matriculated student at San Diego State University
and not on probation of any kind.
- Undergraduate candidates and incumbents must have institutional
and overall cumulative grade point averages of at least 2.0
- Graduate candidates and incumbents must have institutional and
overall cumulative grade point averages of at least 2.5 for unclassified
students or 3.0 for classified graduate students.
- Undergraduate incumbents of a voting office must earn, with a grade
point average of 2.0, a minimum of six units of academic credit each
semester while in office.
- Graduate incumbents of a voting office must earn, with a grade
point average of at least 2.0, a minimum of three units of academic
credit each semester while in office.
- Undergraduate students whose degree objective is a single bachelor's
degree are allowed to earn a maximum of 150 semester units or 125%
of the units required for a specific baccalaureate degree objective,
whichever is greater. Those undergraduate students whose objective
is a second bachelor's degree are allowed to earn a maximum equal
to 125% of the sum of the units required for their first baccalaureate
degree objective and the units required for their second baccalaureate
degree objective. Graduate students whose degree objective is a single
master's degree are allowed to earn a maximum of 50 semester units
or 125% of the units required for a specific graduate degree objective,
whichever is greater. Those graduate students whose objective is a
second graduate degree are allowed to earn a maximum equal to 125%
of the sum of the units required for their first graduate degree objective
and the units required for their second graduate degree objective.
Students holding over that number of units provided in this section
of the Bylaws will no longer be eligible to hold a voting office in
the Associated Students Council. (Revised 11/17/04)t
- Undergraduate candidates for office must have been enrolled on
the SDSU campus for one semester prior to the election or appointment,
earning a total of at least six (6) semester units during that semester.
New graduate students who received a bachelor's degree or credential
within the past three years from SDSU, must have earned a total of
at least twelve (12) semester units during their last year as an undergraduate
to be eligible. (Revised 11/19/97)
- Coursework completed through the College of Extended Studies, including
summer and winter session, or at other institutions may not be used
to satisfy the semesterly unit load and grade point requirements.
- Coursework for which a grade of "Incomplete," "No Credit," "F," or "U," are
recorded or classes numbered 1-99 shall not count toward the minimum
semesterly unit load.
- Any students elected or appointed to a voting position on the A.S.
Council must have his/her eligibility verified before officially taking
office. Student(s) appointed to a voting seat after the A.S. Council
Fall retreat shall attend one (1) orientation conducted by the President
Pro Tempore, Executive Vice-President or a full-time Government Affairs
Office staff member. All matters involving verification of a candidate's
or an incumbent's academic eligibility to serve shall be submitted
to the University President's designee for final determination. (Revised

Prior to participating in the affairs of A.S. Council, all student
voting members of A.S. Council are required to sign a copy of the "Director
Agreement and Policy Concerning Confidentiality, Access to Proprietary
Information, Liability of Directors, Eligibility to Serve and Required
Duties and Responsibilities, and Conflict of Interest." The Executive
Director's Office shall maintain on file a current copy of each student

Declaration of Major (Revised 4/24/96, 04/28/99)
Candidates and incumbents for college-specific
seats must have a declared major appropriate to that college or the
category of undeclared and unclassified majors as defined by the University.
In the event that an A.S. Council representative of the undeclared
majors declares a major, the representative will continue to serve
until the next general election. (Revised 04/28/99) |

Ineligibility to Serve (Revised 4/24/96, 05/13/98)
In the event that the A.S. Rules Committee,
with the approval of A.S. Council, determines that a member of the
A.S. Council is in violation of these Bylaws which results in the member's
resignation or removal from A.S. Council, that member shall be ineligible
for appointment or election by a College Council or non-College Council
organization to serve on A.S. Council for the remainder of the term
for the position being vacated. (Revised 05/13/98) |
