I. |
PURPOSE
The purpose of this Associated Students Board shall be to assist
Student Disability Services in an advisory capacity and to increase
awareness of disabled student issues on the SDSU campus. Specifically,
the Board will:
- Review and make recommendations regarding policies, programs and
procedures to encourage and promote Student Disability Services’ goals.
- Assist in communicating the goals and activities of Student Disability
Services to the campus community.
- Present disabled student concerns and assists in identifying trends,
which are critical to responsive programming.
- Increase awareness and sensitivity among faculty and staff of issues
affecting disabled students.

II. |
MEMBERSHIP

Voting
The Board shall consist of the following voting members:
- One Associated Students Council member to be appointed by the
Associated Students Council, to serve for a period of one year.
- Eight student-at-large members to be appointed by the third week
of the fall semester by procedures established by the Standing Committee
Code to serve for a period of one year.
- One faculty member to be appointed by the Senate in the fall
semester to serve for a period of one year.
- One staff representative from Student Disability Services as
designated by the Director.

Ex-Officio, Voting
- Associated Students President or designee.
- Associated Students Executive Vice President or designee.
- Associated Students Vice President of External Affairs or designee.
- Associated Students Vice President of Finance or designee.
- Associated Students Vice President of University Affairs or designee.

Ex-Officio, Non-Voting
The Board may add other ex-officio non-voting members, as it deems
necessary and subject to approval of the A.S. Council.

III. |
MEETINGS

Chair
The Chairperson of the Board shall be a student-voting member who
shall be elected by the Board subsequent to the Spring General Elections
or as a vacancy occurs. The Chairperson will serve a term of
one year. The Chairperson of the Board shall maintain the responsibility
of notifying the Associated Students Executive Vice President of
any Board vacancies.

Quorum
A quorum shall consist of more than half of the filled, appointed
seats. (4/17/02)

Absences
Any appointed member of the Board who misses two of any ten consecutive
meetings without being excused shall be dropped from the Board. Any
appointed member of the Board who is late by fifteen minutes or more
after the meeting has been called to order will be considered tardy. Two
tardies constitute an unexcused absence. Board members, who miss
three out of ten meetings or more than two consecutive meetings,
shall be subject to removal by a vote of the Board.

Minutes
The Board shall designate a secretary to record minutes of each
meeting and shall submit a copy of all Board minutes to the Executive
Director’s Office for safekeeping.

Frequency
The Board shall hold regular meetings at least twice a month during
the regular academic year, and shall notify the Associated Students
Executive Vice President of times and places of those meetings at
the beginning of each semester.

IV. |
JURISDICTION

The Board shall serve in an advisory capacity and may propose,
plan, and jointly facilitate programs, which promote the purpose
of the Board, the needs of disabled students and Student Disability
Services.

The Board shall serve as the Associated Students representative
to Student Disability Services for discussions and transmittal of
student concerns.

The Board may review and make recommendations regarding any matter
related to Student Disability Services.

V. |
CHARTER AMENDMENTS AND REVISIONS
The Charter may be amended or revised by a two-thirds (2/3) vote
of the Associated Students Council, as specified in Sections 62 and
63 of the Associated Students Bylaws. All proposed amendments or revisions
shall be reviewed by the Board prior to consideration by the Associated
Students Council. |
