What is the University Affairs Board?

Purpose

The purpose of the AS University Affairs Board (UAB) is to coordinate the development of university policy affecting SDSU students on the campus and in the surrounding community. UAB advocates student positions on any university related matter.

Jurisdiction

The University Affairs Board shall have authority to research various academic and other university-related issues, which affect SDSU students in the pursuit of their education. UAB contributes to the preservation of academic freedom and the defense of student rights.

Mission

The University Affairs Board empowers students to take on more responsibility over the quality of their education and overall experience here at San Diego State University. UAB encourages active student participation in the affairs of the university and advocating student concerns. UAB gives students opportunities that provide further involvement and leadership development in pivotal roles in University Senate Committees. UAB seeks to enhance its relationship through collaboration with various university divisions, departments, and offices.

Meetings

The University Affairs Board meets Tuesdays at 12:30 in the Aztec Center Presidential Suite. Meetings are open to the public and membership on the board is open to all interested students.

History

In its two years of existence the University Affairs Board has tackled the issues of shared governance, diversity, impaction and enrollment management. UAB has also put on events such as the Senate Committees Conference and the Summit on University Affairs.

University Senate

The San Diego State University Senate is the University's legislative body. Through this delegate assembly the faculty, in concert with the administration, staff, and students make decisions regarding academic policy and allocation of resources. The University Affairs Board works closely with the University Senate to ensure that student interests are represented.

University Senate Committees

The University Affairs Board encourages involvement with the University Senate, which is by the means of student representation and participation in the committees. These committees connect the student voice and concerns directly to University administrators that set the policy at SDSU.
