Meeting Services - Alcohol Policies

Aztec Center strictly abides by the campus policies for the sale, service and consumption of alcohol. These policies can be found on the Business and Financial Affairs web site - http://bfa.sdsu.edu/policies/alcohol.htm

All groups wishing to serve alcohol at their events held in Aztec Center facilities must first submit the Alcohol Approval Request Form (PDF) to Meeting Services no later than four (4) weeks prior to the proposed event. Requests submitted within four (4) weeks will be automatically denied.

The dispensing of food or beverages at an event requires the submittal of an Event Approval Form to AS Meeting Services. Applicants will receive a copy of the food safety guidelines published by the SDSU's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Department, and will be expected to comply with the requirements.

  1. AS Meeting Services may also request further information about proposed food and beverage operations.
  2. The EH&S Department reserves the right to inspect food handling at the event.

Alcohol Policy

Beer and wine may be served in Aztec Center or Scripps Cottage with approval from Meeting Services and the University. DISTILLED LIQUOR IS NOT PERMITTED ON CAMPUS. Any alcohol dispensed in Associated Students facilities must be handled through Aztec Shops Catering. For more information about serving beer and wine, call Aztec Shops Catering at 619.594.7641.

The organization's representative that is responsible for the event must complete an Alcohol Request Form (obtained from Meeting Services) at least two (2) weeks prior to the event. The Reservations Supervisor or Meeting Services Manager will meet with the sponsoring organization's representative to discuss the parameters of the event.

Financial Arrangements

Alcoholic beverages may be financed from a club treasury, excluding use of Associated Student funds. Unless licensed, beer or wine may NOT be sold nor may a specified amount of donation be collected. Selling would include an exchange for money, tickets or anything of value. If any admission charges are made for a social function, alcoholic beverages cannot be served if any part of the admission price is used to purchase the alcoholic beverages. Any questions in this area may be directed to the SDSU Office of Student Life and Development at 619.594.5221.

Responsibilities

In sponsoring a function where beer and/or wine are served, the organization and its officers accept the following responsibilities and conditions:

  1. The observance of all applicable state laws and University policies.
  2. All damages incurred during the activity.
  3. Any clean-up necessary to restore the facility to its original condition.
